CGBS Faculty Research Grants

The Center for Global Back Studies is pleased to announce the call for proposals and
applications for Faculty Micro-Research Grants for AY 2025/2026. The CGBS Faculty Micro-
Research Grant provides funding for interdisciplinary studies on all themes and topics related to
black populations in America and across the world.


The CGBS Micro-Research Grants are open to full-time faculty of the University of Miami
including faculty affiliates of the center. Applicants must be working on black-themed research.
The awards include pre-tenure awards to support the first book/major project toward tenure
and awards to tenured faculty to support progress or work toward Full professor review.
Preference will be given to collaborative projects among faculty and those which include
student assistance. Participation in Center activities is a plus.

Requirements
To apply, faculty members should submit a short proposal of the summer research project (3 - 4 pages), that includes:


  • A short proposal of the summer research project (3 – 4 pages) and include a statement on
    how this project relates to your overall research program and publication plans.
  • The proposal must be addressed to interdisciplinary readers.
  • Amount Requested (detailed itemized budget and rationale).
  • Research Itinerary
  • CV (no more than 3 pages)
 

Application Submission

Applicants must submit all required documents as a single file to the Center for Global Black Studies via globalblackstudies@miami.edu on or before March 30, 2025.

Selection Process:


CGBS will constitute an interdisciplinary committee of faculty with expertise in African/Africana
and African Diaspora studies, from across the University to review applications. The committee
will select the awardees and determine any adjustments or changes to the proposed budget.
CGBS will inform applicants of the committee's decision by May 15, 2025.


Award winners will present their work at a CGBS Colloquium in the Spring Semester following
the award. They are also expected to submit a one-page bio of their research project and
picture which will be hosted on the CGBS website.


Finally, it is also expected that the Center for Global Black Studies (CGBS) will be acknowledged
in all publications emanating from research the Center supports.
