UM Black Alumni Society Scholarship

The goal of the UM Black Alumni Society scholarship is to provide need-based financial support to enrolled undergraduate students at the University of Miami, recognizing their academic and leadership accomplishments. This scholarship may be applied toward tuition, fees, room and board, or other costs associated with college attendance.

Eligibility Requirements 

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate financial need 
  • Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate UM student when the application is submitted and during the award period.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours 
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above 

Applicants must submit:

  •  300-500-word essay responding to the prompts below: 
    • When you look back on your experience at the University of Miami, what will your legacy be and what contributions will you have made to the school and the student body
    • At the University of Miami, no two students are alike. Our communities, which cover a wide range of identities including race and ethnicity, often define us and shape our individual worlds. Please choose one of your communities or groups and describe its significance to your journey. Explain how, as a product of this community or group, you would enrich our campus.
  • a resume that contains the following:
    • (1) academic recognition and honors you have received
    • (2) work and/or volunteer experience, 
    • (3) organizations and activities in which you hold or held a leadership role.
    • PLEASE LIMIT RESUMES TO 2 PAGES.
  •  a character letter of recommendation from faculty, employer, or community member.

Scholarship Process 

  • Only complete applications received by January 24th will be reviewed.
  • Students will be notified by March 31st. 
  • Funds will only be disbursed to currently enrolled students at the time of distribution - 50% in the Fall semester and 50% in the Spring.
