Dr. Nikki Traylor-Knowles. Dr. Traylor-Knowles is coral biologist and associate professor at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. She founded BWEEMS (Black Women in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Science) an organization devoted to pushing the bounds of science, fostering community, and elevating the Black Women who continue to drive innovation in the aforementioned fields despite being historically overlooked and isolated in the field.
In January 2023, members from this 400-member sisterhood met on RSMAES Virginia Key campus where they shared science, networked, and focused on wellness . All 91 participants from six different countries had their travel and lodging sponsored by BWEEMS.
