Summer Research Fellowship Grants

Student Research Fellowship Grants support independent and original research that advances the mission of the Center of Global Black Studies. Open to undergraduate and graduate students at UM, research should contribute to interdisciplinary Black Studies and the student’s professional development. 

Eligibility Requirements 

To be considered, applicants must:

  • be full-time University of Miami students during the application and award periods
  • have a minimum 3.0 grade point average in their major
  • be able to present their research the following academic year
  • Submit letter of support from their research mentor/supervisor indicating they agree to advise the project

 

Undergraduate Summer Research Grants – maximum $2500 

 Provide a brief proposal (500 words) discussing the following: 

  • your research question(s)
  • how you became interested in your theme/topic
  • how this research ‘problem’ relates to your future research, graduate school and/or professional endeavors
  • research itinerary
  • itemized budget
  • if you are seeking funding from other sources and which ones

 

Graduate Summer Research Grants- maximum $3500 

To apply, please provide a brief proposal (500 words) discussing your research project that includes:

  • brief literature review
  • statement of intellectual stakes and contributions, etc.
  • how this research relates to your dissertation/thesis or publication plans
  • name of faculty mentor for this project and/or dissertation committee
  • research itinerary
  • itemized budget
  • if you are seeking funding from other sources and which ones

  

Application Timeline

App launch: November 1 
App deadline: March 1
App review: March 1 - 15 
Decision meeting: Week March 25-29
Recipients notified: April 1st

  • Only complete applications will be reviewed.
  • Research grants will be disbursed between the last day of classes and May 31st.
