Mistoria Brown is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Miami. Her research explores the intersections of literacy, identity, and technology within communities across the African diaspora. Her decade of experience as an educator, EdTech designer, and developer of literacy experiences, informs her work.
As a Summer Research Fellow at the Center for Global Black Studies (CGBS), Mistori’s research entitled Designing Historical Narrative Games: Enhancing Literacy Through Education focuses on developing innovative educational tools by synthesizing foundational theories in game design, pedagogy, and cultural relevance. This project centers the experiences of students of color and positions gaming as an additional space for agency, cultural affirmation, and narrative exploration.
