Roland Woods, Jr. is a painter and printmaker whose practice renders the exuberance and transcendence of Black everyday life. Born and raised in Miami’s Brownsville neighborhood, he studied art at the University of Miami’s Art History Department in the late 1960s. A member of the early generation of Black students who integrated the university, he was a founding member of the Miami Black Arts Workshop. While at UM, Woods lived in Coconut Grove, a place that would inspire his artmaking and social activist practice.
